A short stretch of the River Ivel running through the Sandcast Wood in Sandy. Known as 'The School Stretch' it is one of the prettiest stretches of the river and turns up most of the usual species. Some excellent Chub are recorded and the smaller Roach, Dace and Chublets have returned recently in significant numbers providing superb pleasure catches. Barbel have been seen but never reported caught, a few Pike and one or two of the Ivel Perch sometimes put in an appearance. Night fishing is not permitted, but it's a great place to spend a winter session with a stick float or roaming with floating crust tactics at the start of the season.
Moggerhanger farm reservoir was re-stocked in early 2012 with several hundred small Ide, Chub and F1 Carp, and has been regularly restocked with silvers since then. which are already boosting catches. The lake teems with Rudd fry each year, but the Ide and Chub should start to feed on these and pack on weight, enabling Roach to become the dominant species in time. The larger carp in the lake run to over 24lbs and are often seen cruising near the surface on warmer days, and we still have the mystery 'Moggerhanger Monster' which many people have hooked but no-one has yet seen. Should it prove to be a catfish there is a £100 reward for its capture, please contact any of the committee as soon as possible.
